Our Journey

WE THANK GOD for delivering us into our “promised land”.  Though the journey had its hills and valleys, BUT GOD has never left us or forsaken us.  He has guided us every step of the way. As we transition into our new church home, we continue to “Walk by Faith, not by Sight” and press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.   This is our story, this is our journey…

Community Bible Baptist Church of Richmond Heights, Florida, was organized in 2000 by the Reverend Ronald A. Smith, Sr. and Twenty-nine members comprised the congregation. The church derived its name from the need to establish a Christ centered, Bible teaching evangelical ministry in the Richmond Heights/Fairway Heights area.

In July of 2000, Reverend Smith; after six months of consecrated prayer concerning the direction of his ministerial call, started a weekly community Bible study at Sgt. Joseph Delancy Park in Richmond Heights. The call led to a greater urge to establish the Community Bible Baptist Church under the Miami Baptist Association Church Starter Program. Attendees were asked to pray concerning the vision of the ministry and to faithfully petition God’s guidance in their commitment and involvement. At the next Bible study on December 6, 2000, the question was posed by Sis. Veldrin Freemon as having the first church service on the forthcoming Sunday. Feeling the strong urge of the Holy Spirit to step out on faith, Reverend Smith; and upon the agreement of several Bible study attendees proceeded to file with the State of Florida the document known as the “State of Florida Corporation” certifying that Community Bible Baptist Church, Inc. is an incorporation organized under the laws of the State of Florida.

On Sunday, December 10, 2000, to the praise, glory and honor of God, the Community Bible Baptist Church held its first Inaugural Worship Service at Dorothy M. Wallace Cope Center South Public School located 10225 SW 147 Terrace in Richmond Heights, Florida. Reverend Smith preached his first sermon titled “God Is With Us” Exodus 3: 7-10 and Hebrews 13:6-5 to the body of believers (62 in attendance) gathered. When the invitation was extended, Sis. Joanna Reddick was the first to respond to the call. In the presence of 62 individuals from neighboring churches, 29 spirit-led members officially chartered the church.

Immediately following the morning service, a special call business meeting was conducted for the purpose of organizing as a church under the Miami Baptist Church Starter Program. The church passed a motion to call Reverend Ronald A. Smith, Sr. as pastor. St. Matthew Community Baptist Church of Coconut Grove under the leadership of the late Pastor Willie Leonard served as our sponsor church. January 28, 2001, Pastor Smith’s ordination service was officiated by the late Rev. Willie Leonard of St. Matthew Baptist Church in Coconut Grove, Florida.

On April 22, 2002, to the glory of God, Community Bible Baptist Church, Inc. a Florida non-profit Corporation acquired the 6.4 acres of land located at 9855 SW 152nd Street Miami, Florida, from Coral Reef Holdings Limited Partnership.
